FIFA issues lifetime bans to former football presidents

FIFA has issued lifetime bans and heavy fines to two former football federation presidents following investigations into financial misconduct.

Vincent Cassell, former president of the Montserrat Football Association, received a lifetime suspension and a fine of one million Swiss francs. The sanctions were imposed for abuse of position, systemic conflicts of interest, and the misuse of FIFA and national association funds. Additionally, former general secretary Tandica Hughes was banned for 15 years and fined 150,000 Swiss francs.

Bassam Adeel Jaleel, former president of the Football Association of Maldives, was also handed a lifetime ban and a one million Swiss franc fine. Jaleel was found to have misappropriated COVID-19 relief funds intended for local clubs to purchase personal real estate. Former finance director Mohamed Ageel received a 10-year suspension and a 100,000 Swiss franc fine for his role in concealing the misuse of funds and using falsified documentation.
