FIFA sells fragments of 2026 World Cup final grass as collectibles

FIFA has opened its official online store to sell small pieces of the grass that will be used for the 2026 World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19. Each fragment is sealed in an acrylic block with a USB‑based authenticity certificate. Prices start at $450 (≈ 390 €, €) for standard pieces and rise to $3,000 for the limited “Hero Edition”, with only 2,026 units produced per edition. The sale is restricted to buyers in the United States, the United Kingdom and other European markets; shipments will be dispatched after the final match. FIFA estimates that the full offering could generate more than $11 million in revenue. The initiative has drawn criticism for its high price tags and limited geographic availability, echoing similar commercial memorabilia programmes in other U.S. sports.
