FIFA orders jersey redesigns for Haiti and Egypt ahead of World Cup
FIFA told Haiti’s men’s team to modify its World Cup uniforms after the governing body said visual elements depicting the 1803 Battle of Vertières could be interpreted as political messaging. The change will affect the blue and white kits that were shown in warm‑up matches, with a revised version to be worn in the tournament opener against Scotland.
The same equipment review also targeted Egypt, requiring the removal of seven stars from its jersey – stars that represent the nation’s Africa Cup of Nations wins – because FIFA says only World Cup titles may be shown. Egypt was also instructed to change the colour of player names and numbers on the back of the shirts. Both teams must comply with FIFA’s equipment regulations before their first matches in the 2026 World Cup.
