FIFA postpones inspection of Korea Football Association
FIFA has postponed its scheduled on-site inspection of the Korea Football Association (KFA), citing internal circumstances. The inspection was intended to investigate whether the KFA's autonomy has been compromised by third-party intervention from the government or political sectors.
Following a joint request from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for information regarding the K-Football Innovation Committee, the KFA was preparing to submit relevant data. The Innovation Committee was established in July to reform Korean football governance and development following the 2026 World Cup cycle.
Kim Dae-hyun, Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, addressed concerns regarding government involvement, stating that the Innovation Committee is strictly an advisory body with no coercive or regulatory power. He emphasized that the committee's structure, which includes FIFA committee member Park Ji-sung as co-chair, was designed to ensure autonomy and avoid controversy. The Vice Minister expressed confidence that the committee's activities would not lead to FIFA sanctions.
