FIFA published its 2025‑2026 financial data, showing President Gianni Infantino received total gross compensation of US$4.8 million (about €4.15 million). The package consists of a base salary of US$2.6 million and a performance bonus of US$2.2 million, disclosed under FIFA’s transparency policy that began in 2019. The figures appear as the organisation readies the expanded 48‑team 2026 World Cup, co‑hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ticket pricing for the tournament has drawn criticism, with some seats reportedly costing more than US$30,000. Infantino countered that the lowest‑priced tickets are US$60 and that the average price stays below US$500, making it “the most competitive” among major North American sports events.
A separate controversy involves Somali referee Omar Artan, who was denied a US visa on security grounds. Infantino described the incident as “regrettable,” stressing that FIFA does not control host‑nation immigration decisions. He also highlighted Iran’s participation despite diplomatic tensions and thanked former US President Donald Trump for his role in facilitating the tournament.
