FIFA accuses UEFA of misinformation and harassment in legal dispute

FIFA and UEFA are engaged in a legal and political conflict involving the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project, which proposed selling stakes in World Cup commercial rights to private investors. FIFA has filed documents in a Florida court accusing UEFA of conducting a “misinformation campaign” and attempting to influence the upcoming FIFA presidential election in March 2027. FIFA claims UEFA’s legal efforts to obtain documents are made in bad faith and intended to harass President Gianni Infantino.

UEFA has petitioned a US court for discovery of documents and testimony, which it intends to use for a potential criminal complaint in Switzerland against Infantino. UEFA alleges that Infantino developed the FFE project secretly with a small group of advisors, bypassing standard governance, and that the project's $20 billion valuation significantly undervalued World Cup assets. FIFA has countered that the total enterprise value exceeded $30 billion and that the project was subject to oversight by FIFA's Council and member associations.

In a separate development, the Swiss Football Association (SFV) has withdrawn its support for Infantino’s re-election bid, citing concerns over transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity. Meanwhile, Gianni Infantino has signaled openness to reviewing proposals to increase financial distributions to the 211 member associations, following requests from UEFA and CONCACAF for a minimum of $10 million per association.
