FIFA to allow Council access to controversial FFE documents

FIFA has announced it will allow members of its Council to review confidential documents regarding the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project. The proposal, which aimed to sell minority stakes in World Cup commercial rights to private investors for an estimated 20 billion dollars, was withdrawn in August following intense opposition from continental confederations.

To maintain confidentiality, FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström stated that Council members must register their interest within two weeks and review the files in person at the organization’s headquarters in Zurich. This move follows a deadline set by UEFA, which had submitted over 100 questions regarding governance, potential conflicts of interest, and the FFE plan.

Separately, FIFA faces scrutiny over reports that it covered approximately 4 million dollars in personal income tax costs for President Gianni Infantino related to his relocation to Miami. While FIFA maintains that all internal regulations and legal obligations were respected, the undisclosed nature of these payments has raised further questions regarding transparency and governance as Infantino seeks reelection in 2027.
