FIFA ticket prices stay high as 2026 World Cup demand holds steady
FIFA’s aggressive pricing strategy for the 2026 World Cup has kept ticket costs at record levels, with dynamic pricing and staged releases preventing the expected post‑kickoff price drop. Average resale prices for group‑stage matches were about US$750, and 84 % of games saw price increases on platforms such as SeatGeek. Some early‑stage tickets in major markets rose above US$4,000, while stadiums across the United States, Canada and Mexico remain near capacity and the tournament is projected to generate US$11 billion in revenue.
Fans have expressed frustration. Michael Johnson of S&P Global said, “It generated some confusion and frustration among fans… they expected prices to drop but they didn’t.” SeatGeek’s senior marketing director Chris Leyden added, “What we have observed on the resale side is that many World Cup matches ended up being sold at prices very close to those set by FIFA.” The high‑price approach is believed to prioritize revenue over broader fan accessibility.
