Brazil prepares for 2027 Women's World Cup
The FIFA Women's World Cup will kick off on 24 June 2027 in Brazil, marking the first edition hosted in South America and the last with 32 teams before expanding to 48 in 2031. Eight cities – Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Brasília, Recife, Salvador and Fortaleza – will stage the matches, with the opening in São Paulo and the final at the Maracanã.
The Brazilian federal government has projected an investment of between R$ 500 million and R$ 1 billion for the tournament, covering security, urban mobility, communications and operations. FIFA has already pledged US$ 800 million, and part of the budget will fund new training centres for women's football.
In the run‑up to the event, TV Brasil’s program “Sem Censura” aired a special edition honoring pioneering women of Brazilian football, featuring former internationals such as Marisa Pires (Caju), Marilza Martins da Silva (Pelezinha) and Márcia Matos (Russa). The show highlighted their contributions and aimed to inspire the next generation ahead of the Cup.
A fan‑fest in Copacabana also gathered former stars, including three‑time World Cup participant Fanta Motta, to promote the tournament and encourage girls’ participation in sport. The national team, coached by Arthur Elias and featuring talents like forward Tainá Maranhão and veteran Marta, seeks its first World Cup title.
