FIFA World Cup 2026 faces criticism over commercialization as Morocco beats Haiti 4-2

Former German captain Philipp Lahm has accused FIFA of "selling" the 2026 World Cup, saying the tournament’s ticket prices, expanded format to 48 teams and profit‑driven focus undermine the sport. He warned that the increase in matches could harm player fitness and that commercial interests are being placed above fans and athletes.

In the group stage of the same tournament, Morocco defeated Haiti 4‑2 in Atlanta. Goals from Ashraf Hukimi, Wislen Acedor, and Gassim Yasin secured the win, while Haiti’s early lead was erased by Morocco’s comeback. The loss eliminated Haiti from the competition, while Morocco advanced to the knockout round where it will face the Netherlands, Japan or Sweden, depending on other results.

The 2026 World Cup is jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, and the controversies and on‑field results are drawing attention from fans worldwide.
