FIFA World Cup 2026: France tipped as top contender while Colombian midfielder faces death threats

Former German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn said France is the strongest candidate to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, citing the team’s balance, depth and ability to win matches in different ways. He told German TV channel "Gi5" that “if I had to choose one team based on what I have seen, I would probably go for France,” ahead of France’s semi‑final clash with Spain in Dallas.

Colombian midfielder Jaminton Campaz received death threats on social media after missing a late extra‑time chance that could have taken Colombia past Switzerland in the round of 16. The Colombian Football Federation appealed to authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible, calling for an immediate investigation and stressing the need to protect the player and his family.
