FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremonies showcase distinct shows in Mexico, Canada and United States
Creative director Marco Balich, known for Olympic ceremonies, oversaw three consecutive opening ceremonies for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States. In Mexico City, a "Latin vibe" featured a massive paper‑cut carpet, a golden trophy crafted by Mexican artisans, and performances by the Ballet Folklórico and military cadets. The Canadian ceremony in Toronto highlighted the country’s cultural diversity with a mosaic‑style trophy display, Bollywood‑inspired dance by Nora Fatehi, and musical performances by Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez and Alanis Morissette’s rendition of the national anthem. The U.S. ceremony is planned to emphasize Hollywood glamour, completing a trio of shows that celebrate sport and global unity.
