Shakira and Burna Boy to headline 2026 World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico City

FIFA announced that Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats artist Burna Boy will perform the official 2026 World Cup song “Dai Dai” at the opening ceremony on 11 June 2026 in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca. Their live duet will take place about 90 minutes before the inaugural match between host nation Mexico and South Africa. The ceremony, the first of three opening shows in the three host nations (Mexico, United States, Canada), will feature a star‑studded lineup that includes Alejandro Fernández, J Balvin, Maná, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Danny Ocean, Belinda, Tyla and others. “Dai Dai” is tied to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise USD 100 million to support education and football opportunities for children worldwide. Shakira’s participation adds to her history with World Cup music, following 2010’s “Waka Waka” and 2014’s “La La La”. She is also slated to appear in the halftime show of the final on 19 July 2026 alongside Madonna and BTS.
