FIFA World Cup 2026 Ticket Scams Target Fans Across North America

Authorities warn that organised fraud groups are exploiting the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 by operating thousands of counterfeit websites that mimic the official FIFA portal. The FBI identified dozens of fake domains such as "fifa-ticket.live" and "worldcup2026-tickets.com.mx" and advised fans to access tickets only through the genuine fifa.com address. Cyber‑security firm Group‑IB reported more than 4,300 fraudulent domains, many registered in Chinese, while Bitdefender flagged 55 advertising campaigns on Meta platforms promoting false tickets, memorabilia and employment offers. Meta has begun displaying warning pop‑ups for related searches. Police in Toronto seized over 16,000 counterfeit jerseys, flags and two fake trophies. The scams coincide with the tournament’s launch on 11 June in the United States, Mexico and Canada, where ticket prices are high and official sales have sparked controversy.
