Pear Lake wildfire spares Clinton village but prompts large evacuations and property loss
The Pear Lake wildfire near Clinton, British Columbia, expanded to an estimated 4,472 hectares on July 24‑25, 2026. Village officials said "Clinton has been preserved from major loss," though the fire threatened the industrial area and caused power outages. The Thompson‑Nicola Regional District placed evacuation orders on nearly 500 properties within Clinton and additional alerts on over 100 surrounding addresses, while 131 properties in Electoral Area E were ordered to evacuate.
Firefighters from the BC Wildfire Service, the Clinton Fire Department and other agencies worked through the night to protect the community. Some structural damage was reported, and one resident, Steve Larabie, said he "lost everything" when the fire destroyed his home and towing business on the outskirts of the village.
In nearby Boston Bar, a water system was vandalized during the Brunswick Complex wildfire response, causing a high‑flow alarm and potential damage to the infrastructure. The Fraser Valley Regional District is investigating the incident.
Elsewhere in the Cariboo region, the mayor of Clearwater urged residents to prepare for ongoing fires, noting that the Pear Lake blaze contributed to evacuation orders for the area and highlighted broader concerns about power grid reliability and fuel supplies.
