FIGC imposes paid access to images of Italy national team press conference
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced a tariff for the distribution of images from the press conference that introduced Roberto Mancini as the new head coach and Claudio Ranieri as technical director of the Italy national football team. National media outlets are required to pay €500 plus VAT, while foreign news agencies must pay €1,200. The fee covers the technical production and distribution of the high‑definition video feed, which will be made available 30 minutes after the event and may only be used by the purchasing outlet.
The move revived criticism from the Italian Sports Press Union (USSI) and the Roman Press Association, which argued that charging for the images limits the right of chronicle and puts a financial burden on media organisations. FIGC officials responded that journalist accreditation and physical access to the press room, including the ability to ask questions, remain free. They also noted that similar image‑distribution charges have been applied previously, for example during the 2023 presentation of Luciano Spalletti.
