FIGC placed under extraordinary administration by CONI
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has been placed under extraordinary administration by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI). In a paradoxical turn, Giovanni Malagò, the federation's recently elected president, has been appointed as the extraordinary commissioner to lead the organization during this transition.
The crisis stems from a legal dispute regarding Malagò's candidacy. Although he won the June 22 election with 68.58% of the vote, CONI determined that he lacked the necessary federation registration (tesseramento) at the time of his candidacy, rendering the election invalid.
As a consequence of this intervention, the FIGC Federal Council has been dissolved, granting Malagò expanded powers to manage the federation. New elections are expected to be organized for December 14, during which Malagò is eligible to run for the presidency again.
