FIGC sets December 14 for new president elections
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has officially scheduled the assembly to elect a new president for December 14. The meeting will take place at the Hotel Hilton Rome Airport in Fiumicino, starting at 8:30 AM. The agenda includes the verification of powers, the election of the Assembly president, the election of federal councilors, and the election of the FIGC president.
This election follows a period of administration by a special commissioner, Giovanni Malagò, appointed by CONI. The upcoming vote is expected to involve negotiations between various football stakeholders, including Lega Serie A, Serie B, Lega Pro, and various player and coach associations, to determine the leadership for the next four-year term.
Amidst these institutional changes, discussions have surfaced regarding the potential appointment of Giancarlo Viglione as General Secretary. Viglione, who has served as the head of the FIGC legislative office since 2019, has faced scrutiny from journalists regarding his impartiality due to past public displays of support for Inter Milan.
