Figen Yüksekdağ comments on Turkey's framework law proposal

Former HDP Co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ has commented on the 12-article "framework law" proposal recently accepted by the Justice Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. While describing the text as a "narrow framework" written with security concerns in mind, she noted that it represents a historical step toward integrating Kurds into the legal system.

Yüksekdağ addressed speculation regarding the potential release of political prisoners, including herself and Selahattin Demirtaş. She asserted that a framework law is not necessary for their freedom, citing existing European Court of Human Rights rulings and maintaining that they are being held unlawfully for their political activities.

She characterized the legislation as a beginning rather than a final goal, urging that it be expanded through more comprehensive democratic and legal regulations.
