Fighter jets intercept civilian aircraft over Ohio event

Two F-16 fighter jets scrambled to intercept a civilian aircraft that entered restricted airspace over Geneva, Ohio, on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred near SPIRE Academy while President Donald Trump was attending the 2026 Patriot Games, a national youth athletic competition.

North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) reported that the intercepting jets deployed flares, a routine visual signal used to alert pilots that they have entered a no-fly zone and must change course immediately. The civilian aircraft responded to the signal and was escorted to a safe landing without incident. No injuries or damage were reported, and the President’s schedule remained uninterrupted.

This event follows similar incursions earlier in the week. On Sunday, three aircraft entered the restricted airspace around the President’s golf property in Bedminster, New Jersey. Federal Aviation Administration officials stated that both the Ohio and New Jersey incidents are under review, though early indications suggest the violations were due to pilot error rather than deliberate breaches.
