Figs and fig leaves offer culinary and traditional uses

Figs and their leaves offer various culinary and traditional health applications. In cooking, figs can be used in both sweet and savory dishes, such as cakes paired with raspberry acidity or roasted with honey and olive oil.

Beyond the fruit, fig leaves (Ficus carica) are noted for their aromatic qualities. When added to boiling water during the cooking of pasta, rice, or legumes, they impart a green, coconut-vanilla scent. Dried leaves are also used for infusions to flavor milk-based desserts or yogurt.

In traditional phytotherapy, fig leaf infusions are used to aid digestion, manage blood sugar, and soothe various ailments. While some anecdotal uses include treating skin conditions like vitiligo, many of these health benefits are based on traditional experience rather than robust clinical trials.
