Figueira da Foz to open 20-bed palliative care unit

Figueira da Foz will establish a new palliative care unit featuring 20 beds, located in the former Casa da Mãe. The project, authorized by ESTAMO – Participações Imobiliárias, represents a 4.9 million euro investment, with 80% of the funding provided by the State Budget.

According to the ULS do Baixo Mondego, the unit aims to strengthen palliative care responses and provide closer access for patients and their families. The facility is intended to ensure specialized care that promotes comfort, dignity, and quality of life. The project also serves to restore a site of historical significance to the city, the former maternity hospital of Figueira da Foz. The local municipality is noted for having designed and financed the project.
