Figueira da Foz tourism highlights in the off-season

Figueira da Foz, located where the Mondego River meets the sea near Coimbra, offers a distinct experience outside of the busy summer months. During the off-season, such as October, the city's famously wide beach becomes quiet and accessible for long walks without the summer crowds.

The coastal area features a flat promenade suitable for walking toward Buarcos, a former fishing village characterized by narrow streets, low houses, and old sea walls. Buarcos is noted for its local fish restaurants, which are easier to access without reservations outside of peak season.

For higher elevations, the Serra da Boa Viagem can be reached by car, offering viewpoints that overlook the city, the Mondego estuary, and the coastline. Local gastronomy is highlighted by dishes such as caldeirada, fish rice, and seafood rice.
