Figurado de Barcelos added to National Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory

The Figurado de Barcelos, a traditional pottery craft, has been officially inscribed in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The recognition was marked during a ceremony held on October 16 at Casa das Artes in Porto.

Representing the Municipality of Barcelos, Culture Councilor Dalva Rodrigues received the plaque in the presence of Secretary of State for Culture Alberto Santos and João Soalheiro, President of the Board of Directors of Património Cultural, I. P. The inscription follows a candidacy submitted by the municipality in October 2024 and was formalized by a decree signed on July 10, 2026.

The distinction recognizes the historical, artistic, and social value of the craft, highlighting the creativity and dedication of generations of artisans who have maintained this tradition. The inclusion aims to safeguard the continuity of the techniques and knowledge associated with this emblematic expression of Portuguese pottery.
