Figure AI melts F. 02 humanoid robot fleet in Finland

Figure AI has decommissioned its fleet of F. 02 humanoid robots by melting them in a 75-ton electric arc furnace in Imatra, Finland. The company chose this method to protect proprietary hardware and intellectual property, noting that manual disassembly would be too time-consuming and would delay the development of the upcoming F. 04 generation.

The decommissioning process was inspired by the 'Terminator 2' film series after Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested the robots should be melted. To ensure the robots could jump into the molten steel autonomously, Figure trained them using a specialized AI model and simulated environments in San Jose.

Due to the presence of lithium-ion batteries, several foundries in the United States and Mexico declined to participate in the process. After the melting process, the resulting steel bars are being returned to the United States to be processed into limited-edition commemorative items.
