Figure Skating Grand Prix Series 2026 begins with athlete updates and anime collaboration

The 2026 Figure Skating Grand Prix Series has commenced, marking a new four-year cycle for the sport following the Milano Cortina Olympics. The series officially begins its broadcast coverage on October 24.

Top Japanese competitors have shared their goals for the season. Olympic bronze medalist Ami Nakai is focusing on enhancing her expressive abilities in her short program, while Kaori Miura is exploring a dualistic theme titled ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ to diversify his performance style. Shun Sato is prioritizing the technical precision of his spins to complement his high-difficulty jumps, and Momone Chiba is adopting a ‘Bond Girl’ persona for her short program.

In a special promotional event, the series is collaborating for the third time with the upcoming theatrical film ‘Medalist’. A special collaboration visual featuring characters from the manga/anime and actual competing athletes has been released to celebrate the intersection of the competitive season and the film’s upcoming release.
