FiiO launches FT15 planar magnetic headphones

FiiO has launched the FT15, a pair of open-back planar magnetic headphones featuring 101mm drivers and natural walnut earcups. Priced at approximately $499.99, £499, or €499.99, the model is designed to be more accessible to various audio sources.

Unlike many planar magnetic headphones that require heavy amplification, the FT15 features a 24-ohm impedance and 95dB/mW sensitivity. This specification allows the device to function with portable players, USB DAC dongles, and compact adapters, though high-end desktop amplifiers remain an option for users seeking more power.

The technical improvements over the previous FT5 model include an 800-nanometre diaphragm, which is 86.7 per cent thinner. This diaphragm is treated with a diamond coating to increase rigidity, paired with a shaped magnet system to distribute force more evenly across the larger surface area.
