Fiji Airways to suspend Nadi-Canberra direct flights in 2027

Fiji Airways has announced the suspension of its direct flight service between Nadi and Canberra, effective early 2027. The airline plans to end the route by February 5, 2027, removing the only direct air link between the Australian capital and Fiji.

The decision is attributed to challenging market conditions. Michael Thomson, Head of Aviation at Canberra Airport, cited global uncertainty, rising aviation fuel prices, and decreased demand for travel to the United States as primary factors making the service difficult to sustain.

The route, which utilized Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, was established approximately three years ago. While the airline has labeled the move a suspension and has not provided a specific date for potential resumption, passengers traveling between the two locations will need to use connecting flights, such as those via Sydney, once the service ends.
