Fiji and New Zealand dominate opening matches of OFC U-16 Women’s Championship

The OFC Under-16 Women’s Championship opened with dominant performances from Fiji and New Zealand. Fiji secured their largest-ever win in the tournament by defeating the Cook Islands 11-0. Adi Reva led the scoring with five goals, setting a new record for the most goals scored by a Fijian player in a single OFC U-16 match. Other scorers for Fiji included Torika Boseiwaqa, Esther Vunivi, Temalesi Masi, and Elisha Narayan.

In another opening match, New Zealand’s Young Football Ferns defeated tournament hosts Solomon Islands 5-0. Jess Saunders scored a hat-trick, with additional goals provided by Jessica Ellis and Madeleine Dwyer. Despite a defensive improvement from the Solomon Islands in the second half, New Zealand maintained their perfect record in the championship.
