Fiji authorities urge road safety during school holidays

Authorities in Fiji are urging road users to exercise increased caution as traffic volumes rise during the school holiday period. Assistant Minister for Transport Naisa Tuinaceva emphasized that road safety is a shared responsibility among drivers, passengers, and parents, noting that while fatalities have decreased compared to the previous year, every loss of life is significant.

Tuinaceva also called on public service vehicle drivers to prioritize passenger safety and remain vigilant. To support these efforts, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kasiano Vusonilawe stated that traffic officers will be deployed along busy roads to monitor motorists and enforce safety laws. Drivers are advised to take regular breaks to avoid fatigue and to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or impairing substances.
