Fiji rugby league teams prepare for 2026 World Cup

Fiji's national rugby league teams are preparing for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup. The women's side, the Fiji Bulikula, will make their tournament debut following a victory over Nigeria in the World Series. They are scheduled to face New Zealand in their opening group match at McDonald Jones Stadium.

New Zealand's Kiwi Ferns have announced an experienced squad for the encounter, led by head coach Ricky Henry. The roster includes co-captains Georgia Hale and Raecene McGregor, as well as players like Shannon Mato and Zahara Temara, who have recently transitioned to representing New Zealand.

On the men's side, the Fiji Bati are also gearing up for the competition. Player Taane Milne noted that while the absence of several senior players is a setback, it provides an opportunity for younger talent to step up. Representative Brandon Wakeham has called for strong support from the Fijian community in Fiji, Australia, and Papua New Guinea as the team prepares to face the Cook Islands in their opening match.
