Fiji expands aviation capacity amid calls for infrastructure investment

Fiji is expanding its aviation capacity to meet rising travel demand. Fiji Airways has announced plans to add 125,000 airline seats by 2027, including the launch of new services to Western Sydney and increased flight frequencies to Hong Kong, Christchurch, Singapore, and Tokyo. CEO Paul Scurrah stated these developments aim to strengthen Nadi International Airport as a regional aviation hub and support the visitor economy.

Parallel to this capacity growth, the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association has highlighted the critical need for urgent infrastructure development. The association noted that while tourism remains the primary economic engine for the country, there is a significant gap between tourism growth and the supporting systems. They emphasized that budget allocations for infrastructure must translate into completed projects to sustain the sector, especially as the country faces challenges from natural disasters like cyclones and flooding.
