Fiji Football Association eyes U20 World Cup qualification

Fiji Football Association CEO Mohammed Yusuf has expressed confidence in the Junior Bula Boys as they prepare for the OFC U19 Men’s Championship in Samoa. Yusuf stated the squad possesses the quality and depth necessary to challenge for qualification to the FIFA U20 World Cup.

A notable development for this 23-member squad is the inclusion of nine overseas-based players. Yusuf explained that the Fiji FA is actively reaching out to individuals with Fijian passports, including the children of migrants, to strengthen the national team.

The squad features a mix of local talent, overseas players, and athletes from Bula FC. Yusuf noted that this combination provides a level of professional exposure previously unavailable to younger generations of Fijian footballers. He challenged the team to build on Fiji’s history of appearing in the FIFA U20 World Cup, most recently in 2023.
