Fiji government to absorb bus fare increase
The Fijian government has announced it will absorb a 22.5 per cent temporary bus fare increase to protect passengers from rising costs. While the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) approved the adjustment for regulated routes in Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, and Taveuni due to rising fuel costs, the government will compensate bus operators directly so that travelers continue to pay existing rates.
The temporary adjustment is set to remain in place until April 9 next year. The FCCC stated the measure aims to ensure service continuity while monitoring international fuel prices and industry conditions. If fuel prices stabilize or decrease, the Commission will reassess the adjustment.
