Fiji High Court cocaine theft: 40kg of drugs replaced with flour

Approximately 40 kilograms of cocaine, valued at roughly 30 million Fijian dollars (13.3 million USD), have been stolen from a High Court vault in Suva, Fiji. The drugs were originally seized in 2019 in a case involving Fiji-Canadian national Joshua Rahman.

An inspection on September 15 revealed that seven of the 39 cocaine packages were missing. Subsequent forensic testing determined that the remaining packages had been tampered with and replaced with flour, meaning the entire quantity of original cocaine is gone.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu stated that the cocaine was placed in the vault in March 2021. Investigators have identified six individuals within the judiciary system who had access to the vault as persons of interest, noting that one is currently abroad. The investigation is also examining why security systems, including CCTV and biometric access, were non-operational during the period the tampering occurred. Authorities are now conducting an extraordinary review of all other court evidence, including seized cash.
