Fiji PM Rabuka to appeal High Court ruling on inquiry report
Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced his intention to appeal a High Court decision that declared a Commission of Inquiry (COI) report null and void. The ruling found that the inquiry’s work conducted after January 31, 2025, was 'ultra vires' because its term had not been validly extended and the president lacked the authority to do so.
The legal setback follows a series of disputes regarding the dismissal of Barbara Malimali, the former commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). The High Court previously ruled that Malimali’s dismissal was unlawful. Rabuka has stated that he will resign if his appeal against the quashing of the COI report fails.
