Fiji prioritizes cybersecurity amid digital infrastructure expansion
Fiji is treating cybersecurity as a matter of national security and economic stability as the nation expands its digital infrastructure. Speaking at the National Cyber Security Resilience Convention 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica emphasized that growing dependence on digital systems exposes the country to sophisticated threats, including online fraud and vulnerabilities created by artificial intelligence.
To address these risks, the government is implementing the National Cyber Security and Resilience Strategy 2026–2031. This framework aims to improve governance, protect critical infrastructure, and enhance the ability to prevent, respond to, and recover from cyber incidents.
The push for digital growth includes Google’s investment in a data operations centre in Natadola and the expansion of Starlink services in rural areas. While these developments support the business process outsourcing industry—which employs approximately 9,000 people and generates $300 million in foreign exchange—officials stressed that digital benefits depend on maintaining public confidence through robust security measures.
