Fiji rugby defeats Japan in Tokyo under new coach Jake White
Fiji secured a 34-28 victory against Japan at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium in Tokyo, marking a successful debut for new head coach Jake White. The match, held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Japan Rugby Football Union, featured a high-scoring contest in rainy conditions.
After both teams scored three tries in the first half, Fiji's substitute Ben Volavola proved decisive by converting two penalties in the second half. Despite Fiji being temporarily reduced to 14 men following a yellow card for Motikiai Murray—which was later upgraded to a red card—the Flying Fijians managed to maintain their lead through tries from Kitione Salawa, Tevita Ikanivere, Tuidraki Samusamuvodre, and Terio Tamani.
This encounter serves as a warm-up for both nations ahead of their upcoming trips to Europe for the Nations Championship. Japan is scheduled to face Wales, England, and Scotland, while Fiji will compete against France, Ireland, and Italy.
