Fijian educational institutions launch journalism and language initiatives

The University of Fiji and the Fijian Media Association (FMA) have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding to enhance journalism education and professional development. The partnership aims to provide students in the Journalism and Media Studies Programme with industry placements, internships, mentorship, and workshops to better prepare them for the evolving multimedia landscape.

Separately, Fiji National University (FNU) recently held its inaugural Vernacular Week under the theme ‘Empowering Indigenous Voices’. During the event, academic leaders emphasized the critical role of tertiary institutions in preserving Fiji’s linguistic diversity, including Fiji Hindi and various indigenous languages, to prevent cultural decline and maintain national identity.
