Fijian Elections Office outlines 2026 election preparations

The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has provided updates on preparations for the upcoming 2026 General Election and the Proposed National Referendum. Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa outlined electoral timelines, noting that the Writ of Election period is expected between 24 June and 24 December 2026, with the General Election projected to run from 07 August 2026 to 06 February 2027.

Financial preparations include an operational budget of $23,242,547 for the FEO and $556,988 for the Electoral Commission. An additional $20 million has been allocated toward preparations for the 2026 National Referendum. As of 30 June 2026, official voter registration stood at 723,771. The FEO has also identified 1,508 provisional polling venues and recruited over 15,000 election officials.

To prevent a recurrence of technical glitches experienced during the 2022 General Election, the FEO has upgraded its software systems and invested in its Information and Communications Technology department. Mataiciwa stated that these cybersecurity enhancements are intended to protect electoral data against potential cyberattacks and ensure system stability during the major electoral events.
