Fikile Mbalula ordered to rest after health collapse
African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula to take medical leave to recover following a health collapse. Mbalula became unwell on Thursday, October 15, while addressing journalists at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.
The incident occurred following a Constitutional Court ruling that overturned a decision by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) regarding the exclusion of 181 ANC councillor candidates. Ramaphosa noted that Mbalula had been under significant stress due to the legal dispute and the pressure of his role.
Ramaphosa stated that Mbalula is currently recovering and emphasized that the official will not return to his duties until both doctors and the President are satisfied with his health. Ramaphosa praised Mbalula for leading the party through the recent legal challenges with distinction.
