FILCAMS CGIL brings tourism worker rights campaign to Messina

The FILCAMS CGIL national campaign, titled ‘Non c’è turismo senza di noi’ (There is no tourism without us), recently held a stop in Messina, Sicily. The initiative utilized a mobile unit to travel through various locations in the province, including the major tourist hub of Taormina, to engage with workers in the tourism sector.

The campaign aims to address the working conditions of those employed in hotels, restaurants, beach establishments, and cultural services. Union representatives highlighted that while tourism is a vital resource for the region, success should not be measured solely by visitor numbers. They emphasized the need to address issues such as insufficient wages, job insecurity, seasonality, difficult working hours, and the protection of labor rights.

The event in Piazza Cairoli featured discussions with tourism employees and speeches from union leaders, including Giuseppe Ragno, Mario Cambria, and Pietro Patti, as well as local territorial promoters.
