Filey Sea Cadets receives planning approval for new headquarters

North Yorkshire Council has granted planning permission for a new Filey Sea Cadets headquarters at the existing Southdene Pavilion site. The project aims to replace the organization’s 40-year-old home with a modern ‘Centre of Excellence’ designed to meet contemporary training needs.

The new facility will feature 48-bed capacity dormitories, a multi-use community hall, powerboat storage, and improved disability access. The development is intended to serve as a significant community asset for the town of Filey.

To fund the project, Filey Sea Cadets has launched a £3.5 million fundraising campaign. While significant early-stage funding has been secured, the organization is seeking further support from businesses, trusts, and the wider community. Site clearance is expected to begin next month, with construction scheduled for early 2027 and a projected opening in spring 2028.
