Filiates Dialysis Unit nurses allege intimidation and illegal standby practices

The Employees' Association of the Filiates General Hospital has issued serious allegations of intimidation and extortion against the nursing staff of the hospital's Dialysis Unit. According to the association, management is pressuring staff to continue an after-hours standby practice that both POEDHN and the Nurses' Union of Greece have formally identified as illegal.

When staff requested written documentation regarding the legal basis, working limits, and compensation for these standby shifts, the Nursing Services Directorate responded by ordering the continuation of the practice. The Directorate reportedly dismissed the unit head's objections as ‘legally indifferent’ and suggested potential disciplinary action for ‘disobedience,’ even requesting the names of staff members who failed to answer calls outside of service hours.

The association argues that citing patient safety or the long-term duration of the practice does not establish its legality, nor does it justify the exhaustion of an understaffed team. The employees are demanding an immediate end to the threats, a reasoned written response to the unions' interventions, clear documentation of the legal framework for availability and compensation, and adequate staffing to ensure safe 24-hour coverage.
