Filip Jicha honored by THW Kiel after 16-year career

THW Kiel officially honored and bid farewell to handball legend Filip Jicha during a ceremony at the Kieler Arena following a victory against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf. Jicha, who spent 16 years with the club as both a player and coach, was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.

During the event, Jicha’s wife, Hana, delivered an emotional speech, and his father, Miroslav, surprised him by unveiling a legend banner beneath the arena roof. Jicha, who secured 33 trophies during his tenure and scored 2,125 goals as a player, expressed deep gratitude for his time with the ‘Zebras,’ stating, “The book is closed, the chapter of THW and Filip Jicha is definitely ended.”

The farewell follows a season in which the club failed to secure a trophy or qualify for European competitions, leading to Jicha’s departure earlier this summer. He is succeeded by Börge Lund.
