Filip Krišto returns to Bosnia to start sheep farm

Filip Krišto has returned to his ancestral land in Zagoričane near Livno after 12 years in Germany to establish a sheep farming business. Seeking a slower pace of life and a natural environment for his children, Krišto transitioned from a career in gastronomy to agriculture.

Due to unresolved property rights regarding land, he pivoted from cattle to sheep farming. His current flock consists of 110 Travnik pramenka sheep, with plans to acquire an additional 250 animals. To protect the flock from wolves and jackals from Mount Krug, he has implemented triple protection using electric fences and Kangal dogs.

Krišto noted that uncontrolled meat imports negatively impact domestic prices, making wholesale sales unprofitable. To ensure economic viability, he plans to sell roasted meat directly to customers. He estimates that a stable rural lifestyle requires a minimum of 300 breeding sheep, personal machinery, regular subsidies, and at least two employees.
