Filip Turek faces legal dispute over apology to Hnutí DUHA
Czech MP Filip Turek is facing legal scrutiny following his method of apologizing to the environmental organization Hnutí DUHA. Following a ruling by the Prague City Court, Turek was ordered to apologize for previous social media statements in which he claimed the group's opposition to a dam contributed to flood-related deaths and referred to its members as ‘parasites that need to be exterminated.’
Turek fulfilled the court order by posting a video apology on Facebook. However, he characterized the video as a way to increase the reach of the apology and included additional criticisms of the organization, such as mentioning personnel changes at the Ministry of the Environment.
Hnutí DUHA has rejected the apology as insufficient, stating that the inclusion of further attacks and the parodic nature of the video do not comply with the court's verdict. The organization has indicated it will pursue further legal action if a proper apology, in accordance with the ruling, is not provided.
