Filipino American Depression and Life‑Satisfaction Scales Validated in New Research

Two recent studies examined the suitability of widely used mental‑health questionnaires for Filipino Americans in the United States. One study tested the 8‑item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ‑8) among Filipino American emerging adults and found that the instrument operates consistently across ethnicity and sex, supporting its use for comparable depression assessments. The second study validated the Revised Filipino Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS‑R) with a sample of Filipino adults living in the U.S., demonstrating excellent reliability, a clear single‑factor structure, and a negative correlation with perceived stress, confirming its cultural relevance.
