Filipino Pair Villabrille and Padiz Advance to Semifinals at Philippine International Challenge

Julius Villabrille and Solomon Padiz Jr. defeated Malaysia’s Bryan Jeremy Goonting and Muhammad Haikal 19‑21, 21‑19, 21‑8 to reach the men’s doubles semifinals of the Philippine International Challenge. The win, achieved at Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong City, made the duo the last remaining Filipino team in the tournament, which features athletes from 28 countries and is presented by the Philippine Sports Commission.

Villabrille said the second set was “really close” and they had to stay focused, while Padiz added, “This isn’t just for us anymore—it’s for the country.” The pair will meet either Malaysia’s Hon Jian Choong and Vin Sean Wong or Indonesia’s Yeremia Rambitan and Patra Rindorindo for a spot in the final. Their performance follows a 2024 PETRONAS International Challenge title and secures a place at the upcoming World Championships.
