Filipino seafarers repatriated following maritime attacks

Multiple groups of Filipino seafarers have been repatriated to the Philippines following maritime attacks in the Black Sea and near Oman.

Twenty-three crew members from the vessels M/V Christina B and M/V Asia arrived in Manila on August 9, 2026, after being affected by drone strikes in the Black Sea. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) coordinated their return, with teams meeting the crew in Romania and Doha, Qatar. Upon arrival, the seafarers received medical checks, financial assistance, and were directed to undergo psychological assessments.

Separately, 14 Filipino seafarers were repatriated after the MT Acheloos was damaged by a missile near the coast of Oman on July 20, 2026. The crew disembarked at Shinas Port and traveled through Muscat and Doha before arriving at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on August 10. The DMW and OWWA provided medical checkups, temporary accommodation, and financial assistance to these workers as well.
